How to Turn Your Food Waste Into Free Food for Your Plants

In our daily life we produce so much of wood waste. Where does all these waste goes? Most of the time, it will end up in drains, rivers, and of course to the landfills. Why not use these waste as an alternative food source for our plants. The advantages of this kind of fertilizer are, it is free from chemicals, and it is free of charge as well (or at least minimum cost); that means you can have your own cheap organic vegetables at home. So, how you going to turn your food waste into food for your plants?

I'm going to give a very simple process that works very well for me. Here are the things that you need to make your own organic fertilizer:

A airtight container with about 7 to 10 liters volume capacity

A stirrer to mix the ingredients (unless you want to use your hands)

A food processor (no need to buy new one, use the one you already have)

A pail that can fill up to 25 liters of water.

And some basic gardening tools

Now, the raw materials for your in-house organic fertilizer are:

Food waste (any food that you intend to throw into dustbin)

An equal amount of brown sugar

An equal amount of peanuts

Let's make your organic fertilizer. Mix the food waste and brown sugar together and place it in the small container. Grind the peanuts and mix it together with the earlier mixture of food waste and brown sugar. Stir the mix until all the ingredients are properly mixed; add some water if it is dry (use rice water for better action). Once all done, cover the container and leave it for about 14 days for the mix to ferment.

After 14 days of fermentation, open your container to check on your organic fertilizer. Get ready to get some unpleasant smell (wear a mask if need to). Assuming that your original raw material was 1 kg of each type of ingredient; you should have about 3.5 to 4 kg of raw organic fertilizer. Fill up the pail with 20 liter of water, and add your raw fertilizer into it and stir until all are properly diluted.

Your organic fertilizer is ready to use. You can either use directly on your plants, or mix your soil with this solution. In either way you'll be able to see the difference in your plants. It's worth trying; if it works then it is good for your health and pocket.

Let's play our part in making our environment greener by reducing the waste from our home.
